Barcode Printers come in various types, including general-purpose laser and inkjet printers. Then there are printers that support multiple symbologies. The technology of laser printers was revolutionized by the introduction of the LaserJet in 1984, by HP. After that, the prices of laser printers have continued to drop.

Printers came to the fore in response to the growing need of computer-users to reproduce permanent records of documents and keep a paper trail of necessary transactions. Commencing with simple, all-text printed documents, various outputs can be reproduced at present for home and office applications alike. An assortment of models and designs of printers has proliferated over the years, making printing simple correspondence to complex graphics and images easier and more stunning.

Bar codes improve data management significantly, and almost every business is using very advanced versions of this technology today. Bar codes speed up data collection considerably by storing significant amounts of data digitally in small black lines that can be easily machine-read. Better printing technology, label materials, scanning systems and wireless communication systems have made bar codes even more indispensable.
