There are many types of digital photo printers available that are made especially for printing photographs. They come in many sizes; many of them are small enough to be carried along with your camera so that you can print photos whenever you need them. Several of these, which include portable printers, connect to your digital camera. This means a computer is no longer needed to print photographs. Some have special slots for a digital media cards. This means you can just detach the card from your camera and attach it directly into the printer. With these printers, you get photos immediately. However these come at a cost. More expensive than normal inkjet printers, they begin at $150 and go up to $300 to $500. At the higher end are the professional ones.

Photo printers are of high quality, and the prices have also considerably come down. These have improved the overall quality of printing, primarily because inks and print heads have improved.

Today you have a wide choice right, from two-cartridge inkjet photo printers to eight- cartridge multicolor printers. These are feature loaded, with slots for memory cards and direct connections for cameras. You could also get small LCDs, to view and edit images, and some even print onto labeled CDs and DVDs.

Something to consider, aside from initial purchase cost, is operation and maintenance costs. You can easily pickup an inkjet for $50, but take a look at the size of the ink cartridges. If it runs out every 100 pages, you’re going to spend much more on ink in the first year, than if you had purchased a much better quality laser.
